Full Recycling of Secondary Resources

We call on the council to establish a "full programme of the recycling of the boroughs used resources" (i.e. waste) within the borough, this to include the collection of, the sorting of, the processing of, the reuse by the council departments, and the education of local business, large and small, as to the opportunities in making use of the secondary Resources so produced.

Background information »
The collection of waste and the limited reuse of selected items is not recycling. We believe that our Borough Council could be doing a great deal more to ensure that what are valuable secondary resources such as paper, plastics, metals, and unused food and wood, to name a few, are properly collected, processed and reused by the council and by us the people who have generated the secondary resource. A true recycling programme in the borough embraced by local businesses large and small, would generate income for the borough and local industry, job opportunities for local people and cleaner pleasanter terrestrial and aquatic environments.

Feedback

I have received your petition on recycling and how the Council can best deal with “waste” generated in the Borough. The Council is in the process of reviewing its Waste Strategy and this will help to shape our thinking on how we deal with the Borough’s “waste” and continue to protect the environment. We are also in the process of reviewing our major contracts for recycling and disposal, the outcome of such also needs to be considered in the development of our strategy. The strategy review will be on-going into 2019.
